It had been a month now since the spacecraft had touched down on planet 180-XG, and they still knew as little as they had known when they first arrived. Weeks had passed, tests had been conducted, however scientists were yet to understand the full complexities of the planet, let alone when or if it would be safe for humans to live there permanently. The spirits of everyone on board was low.
It took a message back from Earth to remind them what they were fighting for. An entire country had to be evacuated due to extreme overheating, and more events were likely to happen. The scientists had to be reminded what was at stake. Billions of people back on Earth were fighting for their lives. Homes were being destroyed by natural disasters. Families being torn apart by corrupted governments. Gangs forming on the streets, the members trying to make the most of life before it was snatched away from them. For everyone on Earth it was starting to feel like the end of the world.
Those on board of the spacecraft’s spirits began to rise again. They knew what had to be done. They had to learn about this planet. They had to find a new place to live, a new place for all of humanity to live. They began to conduct new tests which they hadn’t felt necessary to do before, looking for any piece of information which could help them. They monitored the wind speeds, trying to find some kind of pattern in the seemingly random bursts of wind the planet omitted.
Finally, the scientists found something. A rhythm to the winds. The way it seemed to move in time to the strange music which filled the silence of the planet. All they needed to do was work out a pattern behind the music to predict the incoming wind.
